Collaboration and Approach

The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra brought its annual Opening Night concert to Amsterdam’s Nelson Mandela Park on September 13, 2024 an open-air celebration of music, diversity, and connection. Mindset Media was responsible for the local communication strategy in Amsterdam Southeast, focusing on community outreach and engagement. Using its deep knowledge of Zuidoost and its cultural dynamics, Mindset Media developed a “capillary campaign” that reached residents directly through the people, places, and media channels that shape daily life in the district. Local organizations, community leaders, and micro-influencers became trusted messengers, amplifying the event organically across the neighborhood. Through radio partnerships with Radio mArt, a TV spot on Zuidoost TV, printed features in Zuidoost & Meer, and visibility across community centers and digital displays, the campaign connected music with community life. Every channel contributed to creating real buzz in the heart of Amsterdam Southeast.

Engaging Communities Through Local Media

Instead of relying on large influencers, Mindset Media focused on authentic voices respected figures within the community who shared the announcement through their networks. This included district representatives, local business owners, and neighborhood ambassadors. The campaign also extended to grassroots digital networks, including neighborhood WhatsApp groups and local Facebook pages such as I Love Zuidoost and Hart voor de Kbuurt. These trusted online spaces ensured genuine engagement and word-of-mouth visibility leading up to the event. The initiative was strengthened by collaborations with Booking.com and ING, whose support enabled wider visibility through outdoor campaigns across metro stations and public spaces in and around Zuidoost.

Result and Impact

The combined regional and local efforts resulted in an unforgettable evening that attracted over 4,500 visitors, of whom 45% came from Amsterdam Southeast. The event successfully brought together residents, musicians, and visitors in a shared experience that celebrated the connecting power of music. Despite challenging weather forecasts, the campaign achieved strong local awareness and high community participation proving that meaningful engagement begins with presence and cultural understanding.
